Smart Fans

Technology has come a long way in such a short time and that means your humble ceiling fan has also arrived in the 21st century.

Using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, you can now connect a ceiling fan to your Google Home or Amazon Alexa and control it with your voice or just a few taps on your phone.

We can either install a new smart installation or investigate whether a smart remote is all you need to add a whole new level of control to your home.

We don't repair traditional fans, such as pedestal fans, but we can help to connect your fans to your smart hub.

FAQ – Everything You Need to Know About Fans

Find the right fan for improved air quality and circulation in your home. Here are your most commonly asked questions.

The two most common fans are ceiling fans, used for cooling and moving cooled air throughout a room, and exhaust fans, typically installed in kitchens and bathrooms and drawing steam, smoke, moisture and odours from their respective rooms.

Ceiling fans have to wired in, properly secured and balanced. It's a job for a professional technician such as you will find at Upside Down.

The number of blades on your ceiling fan make a difference. Fans with fewer blades have less drag, so move faster and can move more air efficiently. The fewer the blades, the faster the speed. If you’re after a strong breeze effect, choose 3 blade fans. For a gentle breeze or a mere zephyr, 4 blades is the go.

An exhaust fan will draw any surplus moisture and unwelcome odours from the room in which it is installed - most commonly the kitchen or bathroom - improving air quality and purity. Ceiling exhaust fans contain a motor that enables the blades to turn and extract the air from the immediate area. The pulled air is then channelled through the exhaust vent and is removed from inside the home.

Typically an exhaust fan will be installed in the roof if possible. But if that is not an accessible option, then it can be wall mounted or, if in the bathroom, window mounted as well.

Like many electrical appliances and systems found in a 21st century home, a ceiling fan can now be operated with smart technology. A smart fan is one that can be connected to your Amazon Alexa or Google Home via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and can be operated with your smartphone or with voice control.
